I grew up in a small town with a very loving family. The youngest of five daughters, I always had someone to look up to. My sisters are my idols and best friends. Two additions were added to my family when my niece and nephew were born. Last December, my fiance asked for my hand in marriage while vacationing in New York!

Go Green! Go White! I completed my undergraduate degree at Michigan State University. I majored in Elementary Education with a focus in Math and Teaching English as a Second Language. This December, I will be graduating with a Master's of Arts in Education.

During my undergraduate degree, I completed an internship working with English Language Learners. After receiving my teaching certificate, I taught a year of third grade in Grayling, Michigan. Currently, I am in my third year of teaching second grade at Almont Orchard Primary School.

I am a huge advocate of hands-on/minds-on learning! With every lesson I teach, I find a way to incorporate songs, kinesthetic movement, and lots of visuals. Starting at the beginning of the year, I work with my students to develop a growth mindset. In the age of the internet, it is easier than ever to practice saying, "I don't know the answer...yet."  Students (and adults) need to learn the tools and strategies available to conconquer and create. Critical thinking, questioning, and perservance can lead to success for any student! Click here to find out more about my teaching philosophies!

I love being outdoors! Whether it is swimming, biking, picnics, or walks, I try to spend as much time as I can with nature. Meeting new people and traveling are also top on my list. Three of my favorite places include New York, Chicago, and Mackinac Island. At the end of the day, though, nothing beats a good book!
